Image Maps and rollover images
Image maps and rollover images are two common techniques used in web design to enhance the interactivity and functionality of websites.
Image maps allow you to divide an image into clickable regions, each of which links to a different URL. For example, if you have an image of a world map, you can create an image map that allows users to click on different countries to go to a corresponding page about that country. In Dreamweaver CS5, you can create image maps using the “Insert Image Map” feature, which allows you to draw shapes and define links for each area.
Rollover images, on the other hand, are images that change when a user hovers over them with their mouse. For example, you might have an image of a button that changes color or shape when the user moves their cursor over it. In Dreamweaver CS5, you can create rollover images using the “Insert Rollover Image” feature, which lets you define two different images (one for the default state and one for the rollover state) and specify the behavior when the user interacts with the image.
Both image maps and rollover images can help make your website more engaging and interactive for users. However, it’s important to use them sparingly and thoughtfully, as too many clickable areas or distracting visual effects can make a website feel cluttered and confusing.
